Cheesy Mushroom & Beef Bake

INGREDIENTS
For the beef layer:
500 g ground beef
1 small onion (finely chopped)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp oregano
For the topping:
1 cup mushrooms (sliced)
1/2 cup green pepper (chopped)
1 tbsp olive oil
1–1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare the mixture:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, and spices. Mix gently until combined (don’t overmix).
Cook vegetables:
Heat olive oil in a pan. Cook mushrooms until browned, then add green pepper and cook 2–3 minutes. Set aside.
Assemble:
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
Press the beef mixture evenly into a greased baking dish.
Bake:
Bake for 25–30 minutes until nearly cooked.
Add topping:
Spread mushrooms and peppers over the beef, then sprinkle cheese on top.
Final bake:
Return to oven for 10–15 minutes until cheese melts and turns golden.
Rest & serve:
Let it rest 5–10 minutes before cutting.
TIPS
Use slightly fatty beef for a juicy result
Don’t skip resting time — it keeps the shape perfect
Add a little milk if mixture feels dry
For a crispy top, broil 2 minutes at the end
Slice with a sharp knife for clean pieces
VARIATIONS
Spicy: add chili flakes or jalapeños
Italian: add marinara sauce + parmesan
Low-carb: replace breadcrumbs with almond flour
Chicken version: use ground chicken instead of beef
Extra cheesy: add cheddar or cream cheese inside
